Our New Morning Routine

6:00am -- Alarm goes off. Snooze button.
6:09am -- Repeat.
6:18am -- Repeat.
6:27am -- Turn it off and get up.
6:35am -- Head for park at the river. Walk / jog and pray a Rosary.
7:15am -- Come home, take a shower, eat breakfast, prepare for school day, clean house.
8:25am -- Head to Mass.
9:00am -- Bid husband goodbye, come home and start school day.

It's just three hours, but it's bliss I tell you, bliss.

At the tail end of the day we can't have much schedule or routine because we never know when the farm work day will be over (dinner could be as early as 6 but is usually closer to 9:30 or 10pm). Having these morning hours together with my husband with prayer, exercise, cleanliness, and schedule is incredible.

Do you have a schedule? How will do you stick to it? What works for you and what doesn't?

  1. I don't have a schedule so much as daily goals. I tried the schedule thing. Four kids 5 and under just don't let me keep much of a schedule and only the baby usually sleeps past 7. Goals lets me get things done without collapsing into a twitching coma over delays and alterations and interruptions to a rigid schedule. It makes the kids and me less stressed and more peaceful.

  2. Aw, I LOVE that you two get to spend quality time together in the mornings. Everything feels so much more productive then. :)

Steve goes to PT around 5, Sam starts babbling around 630, I try and hold out until 7, go downstairs and make a bottle. Lay in bed til he's finished. Get Sam up, change him, play with him. Go downstairs as Steve gets home and make my men breakfast. We talk and eat, and while Steve showers and gets ready for work, Sam and I play some more. (Well, Sam pulls everything out of the cabinets while I put dishes away and clean up the kitchen. It's like a modified form of play. I call it "creative." haha)

But you're right. Dinner at our house takes place at different times every day too (except for Sam). I'm kind of like, "whatever" at the end of the day, and dinner never feels as spectacular (or as appreciated-haha) as breakfast. But the mornings are great. Love them. :)

  3. That is great! As hard as it is to get up in the morning you have done so much by 9:00am. We are slowly trying to get into a schedule. Slowly but surely!

  4. Daily goals = awesome :). I hear ya about the stress caused by delays and interruptions and alterations to a carefully crafted schedule; that's why I had to give up on planning our evenings.

  5. LOL, great schedule! I like the "creative play" :-D.

Yes, I LOVE our quality time mornings, too!!! It was interrupted by a dentist appointment this morning, but 6 out of 7 good days a week is SO much better than 0! :)

  6. You're so right, Elia! When I hear the alarm (well, the third time, hehe), part of the motivation to get up is that great feeling I have at 9am of "hm, I didn't just roll out of bed... I've actually already accomplished something today" :).
