Fair Weather Friend

I was reading St. Ignatius of Loyola's autobiography yesterday and was amazed by the constant threat and fear in the 1500's of plagues. He wasn't allowed to enter several cities which were shut down under quarantine. He was forbidden entrance to other cities because he was too pale and suspected of being ill. It was serious business.

"Hm, how awful, I'm glad there's nothing like that today."

Then I heard the dreadful news that a few families I'm around frequently have lice.

Uuh....

Well....

Uuuum....

If you need me for the next few weeks, I'll be visiting my long lost great Aunt twice removed, far far away.

  1. LOL so true!!! It's kind of a joke about how my husband, baby son, and I avoid sick family members and friends "like the plague" ... and now your post really puts added meaning to that phrase!!!

  2. My daughter Grace, an elementary school teacher, brought home lice from school one day. I was terror-stricken by the idea that a horde of lice would soon be making merry in our household of eleven.   But Grace took great care to rid herself of the lice, and thankfully, the infestation did not spread.  So, don't panic :-)

  3. Keep your hair squeaky clean, rinse with vinegar, and tie it up tightly. I had lice once, but not till after I got careless--something I'll never do intentionally again. :(

  4. tehehe As much as I like to fantasize about being like the saints who visited and brought comfort to the infectiously stricken, I'm afraid I run like the dickens at the first suggestion of pestilence. Gah!

  5. There's hope?? I keep getting solemn nods of "yeah, you've probably got them" so I feel like little bugs are crawling all over me! Good to know :).

  6. Eek!
Yeah, I'm rockin' the schoolmarm bun these days :-D. I'll put the jug of vinegar in the shower, though. Thanks!

  7. 4 oz Tea Tree Oil; 25 oz Dawn dish soap; 8 oz white vinegar. Make your own lice shampoo. Just in case!!!

  8. I read your post wrong at first...I took it to mean, a few families you know have lice frequently...and I had to do a double take.  LOL

  9. Another preventive measure: put tea tree oil in your shampoo.  Won't harm your hair, always good for your scalp and lice hate it!
